9TH – 11TH OF AUGUST 2019
THE AUSSIES ARE BACK!! My two most favorite girls from Down Under, Sandy King and Sas Stephenson, will be back in Copenhagen this Summer on the weekend 9th – 11th of August. Save the dates! You definitely don’t want to miss these two bad-ass / warm hearted / laid back yoga warrior’s classes and workshops. I am so excited, happy and honored to host Sandy and Sas again for the 4th time. This weekend is a wonderful opportunity to practice and study with TWO really amazing and experienced Advanced Certified Jivamukti Yoga teachers from the Jivamukti method, coming all the way from Sydney Australia and we are so happy to offer to you the following program:
FRIDAY 9TH AUGUST
18.00-19.30 JIVAMUKTI OPEN CLASS WITH SANDY KING AND SAS STEPHENSON
Jivamukti is a physically demanding and intellectually stimulating practice that incorporates chanting, yoga philosophy, social and environmental awareness and activism, hands-on-assists, meditation and breath awareness, all set to a carefully curated musical soundtrack.
The Jivamukti method is holistic in its spiritual approach and has been commended for making traditional yogic teachings relevant and interesting in a modern context. An Open Class is a fantastic way to classically experience the Jivamukti Method.
19.45-20.45 SATSANG/KIRTAN, ALSO WITH SANDY & SAS
By donation, for a local animal charity
Satsang is an opportunity for a community of like-minded individuals to gather together and share stories, listen to teachings and sit in quiet reflection. Kirtan is the name given to traditional Indian folk music with a call-and-response structure. Devotional Sanskrit mantras will be discussed and chanted, to bring about the “bhav” – the divine mood. Everyone is welcome.
SATURDAY 10TH AUGUST
14.30-17.00 THE LOTUS IN THE MUD – HIP OPENING WORKSHOP WITH SANDY KING
Happiness and suffering are not mutually exclusive, but instead, exist in tandem. Sometimes we are up and sometimes we are down. A lotus cannot grow without some mud. Yoga is the practice of acknowledging the spectrum of experiences in life and finding balance somewhere in the middle. We have a left and a right hip, and we can vary greatly side to side. Sometimes hip opening seems easy, and sometimes we feel locked up. By looking more deeply into our anatomy, accepting our perceived limitations, and working towards unlocking pent up tension, we can find peace and balance in our hips, and ultimately relieve ourselves of unnecessary suffering.
SUNDAY 11TH AUGUST
14.30-17.00 THE SOUND OF THE UNIVERSE – NADA YOGA + BACKBENDING WORKSHOP WITH SANDY KING
When our universe was born, there was a big bang and since then; there has been sound. Vibration is believed to be the most basic building block of the fabric of creation, and thus everything around us is essentially made from sound. We are music. Nada Yoga is the practice of using the faculty of listening, and feeling, to experience the resonance of ourselves and the world in which we live. Can you listen in other ways than with your ears?
Can the body be rendered as an instrument through which divine music can play? What yogic practices are most effective at tuning this instrument and improving our ability to listen and be heard?
ABOUT THE TEACHERS
Sandy and Sas are two of the primary teachers at Jivamukti Yoga Sydney. They are both Advanced Certified in the method and have taught multiple classes, workshops and intensives together and separately around the world. This will be their 4 th visit back to Copenhagen to teach. While Sas works by day in the scientific field of marine biology, Sandy is a full-time yoga teacher who mentors new teachers through the Jivamukti Apprenticeship program and will be serving on the International Jivamukti Teacher Training faculty in India 2020. Sandy was born in Denmark, and though the classes will be taught in English, Sandy speaks Danish fluently, and can answer questions in either language as needed. As individuals, and as a couple, Sandy and Sas believe in the power of compassion in action and hope to contribute, in some way, to the happiness and freedom for all beings everywhere.
